INDUSTRIAL ARCHEOLOGY IN REGGIO EMILIA

FIRST DAY: Arrival in the morning in Reggio Emilia and accomodation in the hotel. Meeting with a local guide at the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre – former Locatelli. Visit to what was the Emilian headquorters of Locatelli company. You will discover the history of this building: a complex for the maturing of Grana cheese, built in the 1920s in the Santa Croce district of Reggio Emilia, and now, after the acquisition by the Municipality in 1998 in the context of a urban regeneration program, which has become an important cultural center, dedicated to the Loris Malaguzzi pedagogue, famous all over the world. Later visit to Tecnopolo – Ex Officine Reggiane: mechanical research center, mechatronics, construction, agri-food, energy and environment, start-up incubator and spin-off. At the end of the visit, lunch at the restaurant of the International Center. In the afternoon visit to the Ex Officine Reggiane Archives, at the Istoreco headquarters, in the Chiostri di San Domenico, located in the historical centre of Reggio Emilia: a wealth of monuments, images and objects linked to the history of the Former Officine. In the evening, typical dinner in a traditional restaurant in the city centre. Overnight stay at the hotel.

SECOND DAY: Breakfast at hotel. In the morning visit to the Maramotti Collection, former production site of the famous fashion house Max Mara and now private gallery of contemporary art with international works from 1945 to today. Free lunch at leisure. In the afternoon guided tour of the BAI Max Mara, library and archive of business, which aims to order, preserve, research and enhance the history of Max Mara Fashion Group. The specialist library in the fashion sector is aimed at researching new trends, while the business archive gathers the historical testimonies of the company as well as fifty thousand items, including garments and clothing accessories, sketches, textiles, documents, advertising material, furniture and multimedia objects from 1951 to today. EMILIA LANGUAGE AND CULTURE

 

FIRST DAY: Arrival in Reggio Emilia and accomodation in the hotel. Welcome lunch in a bistrot. In the afternoon Italian language class to experience as much as possible the Italian culture. Two hours lesson in a classroom and another two hours in the city centre to put into practice what as been learned during the language class. You can take the opportunity to admire the beauty of the historical centre of Reggio Emilia. Typical dinner in a restaurant. Overnight at Hotel.

SECOND DAY: Breakfast at the hotel and leaving from Reggio Emilia. At your choice visit at Torrechiara Castle in the morning. Discover of the famous Parma Ham, ending with a rich tasting session of the famous Parma Ham in its different aging. In the afternoon, after lunch, arrival to Parma and tour of its charmind old town centre. Dinner at leisure and overnight stay at the hotel.

THIRD DAY: Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to an acetaia to see the production of the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena with guided tasting. After that, you will be fashinated by the historical city centre of Modena. Free time for lunch. You will enjoy your afternoon, visiting the new Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari. Continuining the adventure of the “Cavallino Rampante”, you will visit the Ferrari Museum in Maranello:

here you will see legendary cars from the past and prototypes for the future. Typical dinner with Reggio Emilia specialties, in a Michelin starred restaurant, symbol of the local tradition. Overnight stay at the hotel.

FOURTH DAY: Breakfast at the hotel. Free day in Bologna using High Speed Train Station, starting from the new Calatrava Railway Station in Reggio Emilia. We advice to discover the “gourmet” side of Bologna, focusing on the medieval market area. Then to enjoy the authentic atmosphere of Bologna, home to the oldest University of Europe, featuring one of the best preserved medieval centers of Italy. Once back in Reggio Emilia, dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight stay at the hotel.

FIFTH DAY: Breakfast at the hotel and visit to a producer of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, ending with a tasting session. Lunch in a restaurant of one of the most well-known chef of Reggio Emilia. Departure.

A journey through art and good Emilian cuisine

First day: Arrival in Bologna and check-in at the hotel. Guided tour of the historic city center. By way of Independence Street to Piazza Maggiore, passing in the shade of the Neptune Fountain: several Renaissance palaces and the Basilica of San Petronio dominate  the square. Lunch in a traditional restaurant. The visit continues to churches and monuments until the early afternoon. To conclude the day, visit to a winery in the province of Bologna. Dinner on the farm and overnight stay in the hotel.

Second day: Breakfast and visit to a dairy farm in the province of Bologna, producer of Parmigiano Reggiano. Lunch in a typical tavern. Transfer to the province of Modena to visit a traditional vinegar factory. A tasting of the real Balsamic Vinegar of Modena IGP and a guided tour allow the discovery of the secrets and traditions of the production of this condiment appreciated all over the world. Return to Bologna, dinner in the old town and overnight stay in the hotel.

Third day: Breakfast in the hotel, transfer to Modena and free morning in the streets of the old town. You will particularly appreciate the Ghirlandina, the Duomo and Piazza Grande, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Free lunch. In the afternoon, visit to a Salumificio in the province of Modena, in activity for more than 130 years.  Visit to the Museum of Delicatessen: A collection of centuries of history and traditions of the production of salami in Emilia Romagna. History and culinary traditions of Emilia

Starting at Piazza Prampolini where the Cathedral rises near the baptistery and the town hall with the Tricolore Hall, where in 1797 the Italian flag was born, towards the Basilica of San Prospero, the Teatro Municipale Romolo Valli and much more. Dinner in the old town and overnight stay in the hotel.

Second day: Breakfast at the hotel and visit of  a farm which produces fresh milk, Parmigiano Reggiano and Lambrusco wine. Their products, healthy and organic, represent the best of the Reggio traditions, combined with the best modern techniques. Lunch featuring traditional specialities at farmhouse. In the afternoon, visit to a famous Salumificio in the province of Parma, famous producer of Prosciutto di Parma. Return to Reggio Emilia, dinner and free evening. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Third day: Breakfast at the hotel and visit to a winery in the province of Modena, recipient of numerous international awards for its production of Lambrusco DOP. Then a visit to an Acetaia producing Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, to discover the production process of this prized condiment. Lunch in the restaurant. Departure.

A week-end of food specialities and traditions in Emilia Romagna

First day: Arrival in Parma and check-in at hotel. Visit to a famous prosciuttificio, representing the highest level of excellence in quality and tradition in the Ducal Province, with a tasting of different types of deli meats. Lunch featuring traditional Emilian dishes in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit to a winery to discover the history of Parma vineyards and the techniques of wine production. Dinner in the city of Parma and free evening. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Second day: Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the province of Reggio Emilia to visit a farm which produces fresh milk, Parmigiano Reggiano and Lambrusco wine. MATILDA TRAIL

FIRST DAY: The ancient pilgrim route to discover on foot named Matilda Trail connects Mantua, Reggio Emilia and Lucca passing through the heart of the Po Valley and the National Park of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Departure from San Benedetto Po and follow the hiking cycle path along the Po river until Guastalla. We leave San Benedetto following the straight that leads to the small embankment, travelling along the pedestrian and cycle naturalistic route that leads up to Portiolo. We will find the main embankment skirting the small villages of Villa Saviola and Motteggiana. Two kilometers after the passage under the road bridge over the Po river, in the locality of Zaragnino, we leave the river in the direction of Tabellano. Then go back up to the main embankment in the direction of Luzzara. A handful of kilometers are missing to reach the goal of our day, Guastalla, the small capital of the Gonzaga. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight at the hotel.

SECOND DAY: Breakfast in the hotel and visit of Guastalla, a city of ancient origins. We will enjoy this jewel and its views, famous for international movies as 1900 by Bernardo Bertolucci. Lunch in a local restaurant. Afternoon excursion to discover the final stretch of the Crostolo stream. Rich places in flora, fauna, and history, where the famous painter Antonio Ligabue lived. An adventure to discover the nature of the Great River and its landscapes, completely immersed in the enthralling atmosphere of what we named “Bassa”. Dinner in a typical restaurant and overnight at the hotel.

THIRD DAY: Breakfast in the hotel. We leave the small capital of the Gonzaga family to head towards Reggio Emilia, the city where the Italian flag was firstly adopted in 1797. From Guastalla we continue southwards following the embankment of the Crostolo torrent and taking the gravel road of via Fornaci. We reach first Pieve Rossa and then Bagnolo. From here, taking the narrow Via Pioppa at the southern boundary of the village into the countryside to the gates of Reggio Emilia, we first have the stunning view of the Mediopadana high-speed train station designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava. Departure.

In the afternoon, a tourist guide will accompany you to the discovery of Brescello and the places where the famous movie Don Camillo & Peppone took place.
